BIOGRAPHY:Hiya and welcome to my Bio – Being the mother of a Special Educational Needs son, now a successful young man, has allowed me a genuine interest and passion in providing emotional, socializing and academic support of children and young people, over the past 20 years, in both mainstream and Special Educational needs school settings. I have been blessed with a natural ability and rapport with young people and children and am truly a ‘people’ person.
Although trained in providing academic support to those in all areas of learning difficulties: my true passion, and genuine interest has always been in utilizing my training, positive attitude and a sack full of patience in helping others to ‘find their smile’ aiding their self-worth and sense of well-being. To complement this, my journey began with Nurture group followed by Kaleidoscope training. My most recent training has included Mental Health issues, Understanding Children and young people’s Mental Health, Child Psychology as well as being a Mental Health First Aider. I also offer bereavement support and self-esteem building strategies.
As a Graduate Drawing and Talking practitioner, I have been honoured to see the positive results students have achieved as they move through their barriers and discover their true self-worth allowing them to be ‘the best that they can be’. Drawing and Talking is a 12 week, non-intrusive intervention, which allows the person, regardless of age, to deal with their emotions at their own pace using the therapy of play in drawing or by using sand.
I would be more than happy to work from my home base using zoom, or travel (within a 10 mile radius from Milton Keynes) to your home, all it takes is an email, call or text from you, to begin the journey. I look forward to hearing from you ………. Katrina, Sunshine Smiles :)

I found Drawing and Talking an amazing experience. I can\'t describe how it changed me but somehow my thoughts lightened and I was more positive about my life. I felt like moving forward for the first time in ages. Katrina was so kind and gentle in her approach. I can\'t thank her enough.

Katrina provided an excellent service when I experienced Drawing & Talking, she always had time to listen and provided an excellent sounding board for anything which arose. Excellent service and highly recommend giving it a try.

Having just completed a 12 week Drawing & Talking programme with Katrins, I can certainly say I feel so much better in myself for doing it. When I started I was in a really difficult place in my life, now I feel more positive, accepting situations as they are and moving forwards. It helped me work through some difficulties in my relationships with my 2 teenage boys, we now have much more positive interactions and our home is calmer. (Some sessions I started with quite a bit of anger and by the end I had a different perspective and more understanding of the issues - even though I didn\'t talk about the boys at all!) When I started I recognised that I am a perfectionist - I couldn\'t stand it if a line or dot was out of place in my drawings and would \'undo\' all the time. Being a perfectionist causes me issues, in that I have high expectations of myself and others, and if I / they don\'t acheive these, I feel disappointed and bad. By the last session my colouring was going out of the lines and as I went to \'undo\' I stopped myself and said \"oh never mind it doesn\'t have to be perfect!\" This is an amazing leap forward for me, really feeling that things don\'t have to be perfect has enabled me to have more focus on the things that do matter and feel generally calmer in myself :) Katrina is an amazing practitioner, she is warm, bubbly and kind, and brings her wonderful humour and spirit into the sessions. She would keep me on track and in my imagination, when I would vear off into logic and reason. When I was mid way through and showing some resistance, she motivated me to continue, and I am so pleased that she did. Katrina is proffessional and punctual, whilst being flexible when needed and built trust in our relationship so that I knew my drawings were safe with her, until the end when I was given all my drawings back to keep. I was so pleased with my sessions with Katrina and the benefits I was gaining, I booked my son in for sessions with her. He had refused counselling sessions, and I was concerned that he didn\'t have an outlet to process some difficult issues going on. He doesn\'t like drawing, but he loves his sessions with Katrina, I am never met with the usual teenage resistance! Thank you Katrina for being such a wonderful being and the amazing Drawing and Talking sessions that you provide
